Maureen Sher established Asheville Pilates in 2001, after coming to the United States in 1996. She moved here from South Africa, where she had worked as an actors' agent and personal manager for some years, and had assisted the country's top consultant to professional and training dancers in body conditioning techniques. After extensive training in many aspects of the performing arts, the move to the US introduced Maureen to both Pilates and the Gyrotonic® methods of exercise. She received Pilates certification through Core Dynamics Pilates and is also a certified Gyrotonic® and Gyrokinesis® instructor.
Maureen has extended her training to include some of the specialized equipment in Gyrotonic® movement, as well as the therapeutic applications for scoliosis, shoulder and pelvic girdle dysfunctions.
Through guiding clients to develop and increase strength, grace, coordination, pain-free easy and functional movement, a sense of well being is realized and a more spirited and enlivened experience of life is ignited. Maureen has been a refloxology practitioner for 20 years.
